Heat pump communication
If the Samsung is not successfully communicating with Passiv Smart Thermostat then check the following:
- Check the RS485 cable connections on the MIM-B19N within the Samsung outdoor unit, and confirm continuity back to the previous device
- Check the DIP switches are all ON (up), and the dial is set to “1”
“00” should be present on the 8-segment display, and the red LED should flash when communicating with the Passiv Hub, the green LED also flashes when communicating with the outdoor unit. - If “E6” and “04” are alternating on the 8-segment display then double check R1 and R2 are connected the correct way around. Note: This error typically takes more than 10 minutes to appear after powering on.
- Check the Main Address on the Samsung indoor unit, which is found in the Service mode menu, "Indoor Unit Options", "Address", "Main Address". This address must be 200100:
Reset Field Settings Values (FSV)
In the event the Passiv Smart Thermostat is being fitted to an existing installation, it is likely that the FSV are no longer using factory defaults (see MIM-E03EN page 24-43 for defaults).
Critical settings to check:
- 3021 (DHW max temp) set to the maximum value which is dependant on the heat pump 55C/63C/70C capability. The PST will manage the tank temperature within this setting including performing the anti-legionella cycle as efficiently as possible.
- 3022 is set to 2 (default) and 3023 is set to 5 (default)
- 3051 (Timer OFF Function) must be set to “Not use”
- Ensure no schedules are set on the Samsung controller
An alternative method to reset field settings is to use the SNET Pro2 and upload the latest firmware depending on the PCB version. This overwrites any current settings with the factory defaults. Once this is completed ensure the Samsung heat pump settings are set correctly for the Passiv Smart Thermostat.
Joule Kodiak pre-plumbed cylinder
If a Joule Kodiak Samsung pre-plumbed cylinder has been specified, then valves and circulation pumps remain connected to the Joule unit. The Passiv Smart Thermostat controls each heating zone via the Joule thermostat S/L connections. Note: Only two heating zones are supported.
A wiring schematic for first fix can be located here.
If cable clamping is required due to surface mounted cables, a 5-core cable can be successfully clamped using any of the middle three cable clamps with the Passiv Programmer. The middle three clamps accommodate cables between 6.0-9.0mm diameter.
